Glamping has become in a few years one of the strongest trends in French tourism. This portmanteau of "glamorous camping" describes a form of accommodation that combines immersion in nature with hotel-level comfort. Gone is the sleeping bag on the floor and the communal cold shower: in their place are cotton sheets, a fully equipped kitchen and a private terrace, all under the stars. And while southern France is a natural destination for this experience, the Ariège Pyrénées is one of its most authentic expressions.
What exactly is glamping?
The term covers a wide range of realities: tipis and yurts with basic comfort, high-end treehouses, transparent bubble pods under the stars, retro Airstreams, converted containers... and also — this is our approach — traditional caravans. What they all share: direct contact with nature from inside an original accommodation, with enough comfort to make the night a pleasant experience rather than an ordeal. Glamping is not luxury for luxury's sake; it is the luxury of rediscovered simplicity.
The caravans at Domaine de la Trille: Pyrenean glamping
Our four caravans — the Red, the Blue, the Green and the Yellow — are traditional-style caravans, fully renovated and equipped to offer apartment-level comfort within a setting of wood and wrought iron. Each caravan is positioned on the estate to guarantee its occupants' privacy, oriented for seclusion. From your balcony, you enjoy the quiet of the Ariège countryside.
- Bedroom with double bed (160x200) and hotel-quality bedding
- Living area with sofa, dining area and fully equipped kitchen
- Kitchen: refrigerator, induction hob, coffee maker, kettle, full utensils
- Private bathroom with shower and WC
- Heating for cool nights
- Private terrace with Pyrénées views
- Bed linen and towels provided
- Capacity: 2 to 4 people
Each caravan has its own unique décor: the Red with warm tones, the Blue, the Green and the Yellow. You can state your preference at the time of booking, subject to availability.
The setting: 240 hectares of high environmental value farmland
At Domaine de la Trille, you sleep on a working livestock farm certified HVE level 3 (High Environmental Value). The 240 hectares of meadows and woodland are managed using sustainable farming practices.
Glamping in Ariège vs other southern destinations
While glamping options can be found across Occitanie — Ardèche, Dordogne, Provence, Côte d'Azur — Ariège offers distinctive advantages. Prices are more reasonable than in Provence or the Dordogne. Tourist density is significantly lower, guaranteeing peace and authenticity even at the height of summer. And the Pyrenean foothills landscapes — with the Pyrénées range as a panoramic backdrop — are among the most spectacular in South-West France. Finally, the wealth of activities nearby (caves, Cathar castles, lakes) makes it possible to combine glamping with cultural discovery.
When to go glamping in Ariège?
The best season for glamping in Ariège is late spring and summer: May to September. April and October are possible but nights can be cool (caravan heating is essential). The Ariège summer (July–August) offers sunny days, mild nights and all activities up and running. Spring (May–June) is the season of flowering meadows and herds returning to pasture — particularly beautiful.
- May–June: nature in bloom, peaceful, mild temperatures, no crowds
- July–August: full summer, all activities open, Lake Montbel, holiday atmosphere
- September: Ariège's "golden hour", harvests, early autumn colours, tranquillity returns
- October: beautiful autumn colours, but some sites close
- November–March: caravans closed (off-season)
