Nature weekend in Ariège: 3 days of disconnection at the foot of the Pyrénées

Just 1 hour from Toulouse, Ariège offers a real change of scenery for an extended weekend. Mountains, forests, lakes, medieval heritage: the region has so much to offer. Here is our ideal 3-day programme, road-tested by our guests, departing from Domaine de la Trille.

Day 1 (Friday): Arrival and discovery of the Domaine

Arrive late afternoon (check-in from 4 pm). Settle into your caravan or gîte, explore your accommodation. Evening walk through the estate's meadows, watching the Limousin cattle. Dinner outdoors, under a starry sky — the countryside offers a beautiful canopy of stars.

Day 2 (Saturday): Mirepoix and Montségur

Morning: leisurely breakfast then off to Mirepoix (5 minutes). Stroll under the medieval arcades, covered market, cathedral. If you are there on a Monday, do not miss the big market! Afternoon: drive to Château de Montségur (30 min by road + 30 min on foot). The panoramic view from the top is breathtaking. Return to the Domaine to enjoy the calm of the evening.

Day 3 (Sunday): Lake and nature

Morning: walk around the estate to enjoy the wide open spaces and watch the Limousin cattle. Afternoon: head to Lac de Montbel (20 min). Swimming, paddleboarding or kayaking in summer, or a lakeside walk at other times. Check-out at 10 am.

Variations to suit your mood

• Couples: replace Montségur with a relaxing day on the estate (walk, reading on the terrace, sunset)
• Active guests: add a hike to Pic de Saint-Barthélemy on Saturday (full day)
• Culture lovers: swap the lake for the Niaux caves or Labouiche underground river
• Food enthusiasts: Mirepoix market (Monday), local farms, Pyrénées cheese dairies
